KNOSSOS PALACE - PLATEAU OF LASITHI VILLAGE - AGIOS KONSTANTINOS & AGIOS GEORGIOS VILLAGE - DIKTEO ANDRO CAVE OF PSYCHRO
A beautiful journey starting from the palace of Knossos and continuing to Lassithi Plateau. Ascenic valley surrounded by mountains. It is located in Lassithi about 70km east of Heraklion. The plateau is known for its picturesque windmills . In the 50s and 60s the plateau was one of the first wind farms in Europe. There were about 16 000 windmills that pumped groundwater, with which the inhabitants irrigated their crops.
The Dikteo Andro cave is situated on the north side of the Dikti mountain, above the village of Psychro in Lassithi Plateau, at an altitude of 1020 meters. It is considered one of the most important internationally known caves, with large mythological and archaeological interest. Inside the cave Rea, hidden from the fury of Cronos gave birth to Zeus. The cave has an area of 2,200 square meters and can be visited. The total length of the tourist route is 250 m. Inside the cave there is a rich decoration of stalactites, stalagmites, and a picturesque lake.
